Fixing the Cause of Drains That Keep Blocking

Clearing a drain deals with the blockage in front of you, but if the same drain keeps backing up, empties slowly or smells, there is usually a fault in the pipework behind it. Common causes include a section of pipe that has cracked, sunk or moved out of line, a joint that has opened up, or a run laid with too little fall to carry waste away. Emergency Local Plumbers investigates these longer-term problems for homes and businesses across Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk.

Our approach is to find what is causing the problem before recommending any work. We check how each outlet drains, open the access points along the run and trace where the flow is being held up or escaping. We then explain what we have found and what it will take to correct, and you agree the price before we begin. The aim is a drain you no longer need to call us about.

Why choose us

Why Choose Us for Recurring Drain Faults

Cause Found Before Work Is Quoted

We investigate first and explain the fault, so you pay to fix the real problem rather than for repeated clear-outs.

Plumbing and Drainage Together

Many drain faults start at a trap, waste pipe or toilet connection indoors, and because we handle plumbing as well as drainage we can repair both ends.

We fully guarantee our service, so the repair you pay for is backed by us after the job is finished.

For Homes and Business Premises

We resolve drainage faults at houses and commercial properties, where a recurring blockage costs time and disrupts customers.

Factors That Affect the Cost of a Drainage Repair

Drainage repairs are quoted once we know the cause, and the price depends on:

  • What the investigation finds, from a poorly fitted trap to a damaged section of pipe.
  • The length of the affected run and how many access points it has.
  • How deep the pipe is and what surface lies above it.
  • Whether one fault or several need correcting.
  • The materials needed to match or replace the existing pipework.

The work

How We Put a Recurring Drainage Fault Right

The main stages of the job, from finding the fault to the final check.

  1. Hearing the History

You tell us how often the drain blocks, which outlets are affected and anything that seems to trigger it. Photos sent by WhatsApp help too.

  2. Tracing the Cause

We test how each outlet drains and open the access points along the run to find where flow is restricted or water is escaping.

  3. Agreeing the Repair

We set out what we found and the work needed, and the cost is settled with you before any work starts.

  4. Repairing and Proving the Flow

We carry out the repair and run water through the system to prove it, then review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Common Questions About Drainage Repairs

Why does my drain keep blocking?

Repeat blockages usually mean something in the pipe is catching waste. A cracked or displaced section, a joint that has dropped, roots getting in or a run with too little fall can all hold waste back until the drain blocks again. Finding which one applies is the first part of the job.

What causes a smell from the drains?

Drain smells often come from a trap that has dried out or no longer seals, a leaking joint, or waste sitting in a section of pipe that does not drain fully. We check each of these and correct whichever is responsible.

My sink drains slowly but is not blocked. Is that a drainage problem?

It can be. A slow outlet may have a partial build-up in its waste pipe, a poorly fitted trap or a fault further along the drain. If more than one outlet is slow, the problem is more likely in the shared run.

Do you repair damaged drain pipes?

Yes. Once we have found a cracked, broken or displaced section, we explain the repair it needs and confirm the price with you. The method depends on where the pipe is, how deep it sits and what it is made of.

Can you help if my business has ongoing drain problems?

Yes. We investigate recurring blockages and smells at commercial properties as well as homes. If the drain is out of use when you call, our 24/7 emergency service can clear it first so you can keep trading.
