Common Oil Boiler Questions in Cambridge

Why has my oil boiler gone to lockout?

Lockout is a safety shutdown. The burner tried to light, the control box did not detect a flame, and it stopped the burner. Common causes include a blocked filter or nozzle, air in the fuel line, worn ignition electrodes, a dirty photocell or a failing control box, and the repair starts by finding which one it is.

Is it safe to keep pressing the reset button on my oil boiler?

One reset is reasonable. If the boiler locks out again, leave it off. Each failed start can leave unburnt oil in the combustion chamber, which can make the next ignition rough and leave more to clean. Most manufacturers advise against repeated resets for this reason.
